With your outer layer open and closed
You may wear your jacket open indoors and closed outside. Looking at your jewellery in both states gives you a more useful picture of your day.

Give your last look at home another moment
You put a necklace over a cream top, throw on your jacket and leave. Once you close the jacket outside, the line you liked a moment ago disappears. Nothing has gone wrong: your outfit has two different states during the day. Choosing jewellery with only the top in view can leave out the second frame created by the outer layer.
Before leaving, try the jacket as you actually wear it. Leave it open first, then close it to your usual point. Notice where the necklace sits and how the earrings look beside the collar. Keep jewellery clear while fastening a zip or button; you do not need to pin it to the fabric or force it through an opening.
A different detail may lead in each version
A small pendant may stand out against cream when a chestnut jacket is open. Once it is closed, you might notice the hoop earrings beside your face instead. Rather than expecting both versions to have the same effect, decide whether you enjoy the change. An outfit does not have to stay fixed like a single photograph.
If you will spend most of the day outside, a pairing you enjoy with the jacket closed may make the decision easier. If you are visiting a friend at home, the version without the jacket matters too. You do not have to prepare two separate outfits. Seeing both states with one pair of earrings you own is a useful start.
Two pictures and one note for today
Take two pictures in the same spot: jacket open and jacket closed. Keep your hair and jewellery unchanged. Ask more than whether the necklace is visible. Look at the space around the collar, the buttons and the earrings together. The necklace can be hidden in one picture while you still enjoy the whole look.
Leave yourself one note: “I like the hoops when this jacket is closed; when it is open, the necklace joins the look.” Next time, start with that observation instead of repeating the entire experiment. If your preference changes, change the note. It is simply a small record of how you like to wear your own clothes.
