Separate a compliment from your own style decision
It can be lovely when someone notices a piece. Choosing it again is a separate decision about what you enjoy in your look.

Let the comment stay a comment
A friend notices your curved earrings and says she loves them. You may enjoy hearing that small compliment. But if wearing them at the next meeting starts to feel like an assignment, two separate things may have become connected: her preference and your choice for that day. Accepting a comment warmly does not mean returning to the same piece in every outfit.
Remember the compliment without enlarging it. Perhaps your friend liked the shape, or its relationship with your dark top. There is no need to conclude that this is your best jewellery or that you should stop wearing other pieces. The comment belongs to a particular moment; it does not rank your entire collection.
Leave room for your own response
What do you enjoy when you look at the same earrings? You might like their curve while wanting the collar line to be more visible today. Or your friend’s comment and your own preference may point in the same direction. You do not need to disagree or move away from a piece simply because someone praised it.
Instead of borrowing the adjective another person used, describe the look in one sentence of your own: “These earrings add a little movement to my plain dress.” If your only answer is that everyone liked them, take a moment to consider the visual feeling they give you. There is no pressure to produce a strong explanation immediately.
Keep two sentences side by side
Make two lines in a small note. On the first, record the comment you heard; on the second, the detail you see yourself. For example: “The curve of my earrings was noticed” and “Today I enjoy the straight line of my dress.” If these differ, neither needs to be wrong. You are simply recording two perspectives.
Begin your next choice with the second line. You might want those earrings again, or prefer a different piece. This leaves room for your decision without rejecting the compliment. Your jewellery does not have to receive the same reaction at every meeting; it can belong to the look you want to see that day.
